Privacy Policy

NextTrip (“NextTrip,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a small, family-run app for keeping a private, shared list of the places you want to go and the trips you’ve taken. We care about privacy because the app is, at its heart, a private place for your family’s dreams and memories. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
If you have any questions, email us at thenexttripapp@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your lists, trips, photos, and people are private by default. We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
- We collect only what’s needed to run the app (your account and the content you create) and, if you join our waitlist, your email address.
- Your content is stored securely with our hosting provider (Supabase) and protected so that only your household can access it.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Your password is stored in a securely hashed form by our authentication provider — we never see or store your actual password.
Content you create in the app. This is the information you choose to add, including:
- Trips and places (names, notes, dates, and rankings).
- Location details for a place when you attach a real one from search (such as latitude and longitude, country, and a map provider’s place identifier).
- Household members you add (names, and optional birthdays).
- Life events and milestones you record.
- Photos you add to your trips and members.
Waitlist information. If you sign up on our website to get early access, we collect the email address you provide so we can notify you.
Technical information. Our service providers automatically process limited technical data needed to operate and secure the service (such as IP address and timestamps in server logs).
How we use your information
- To provide the app — saving your content and syncing it across your household’s devices.
- To secure and operate the service and prevent abuse.
- To contact you about your account, or — if you joined the waitlist — to let you know when access is available.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content for advertising or to train AI models.
How your information is shared
Your private content is visible only to your household account. We share information only with the service providers that make NextTrip work (“subprocessors”), and only as needed:
- Supabase — our backend host for the database, authentication, and photo storage.
- A places search provider (OpenStreetMap, via Photon) — when you type to search for a place, your search text is sent to suggest matching locations.
- Apple — for app distribution and beta testing through the App Store / TestFlight, subject to Apple’s own privacy terms.
- Expo (EAS) — for delivering the app and over-the-air updates.
- Google Fonts — our website loads fonts from Google’s font service, which receives your IP address as part of serving those fonts.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the service.
Cookies, tracking, and analytics
Our website uses no advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not use tracking cookies. We may use only the minimal, essential storage needed for the site to function. The app stores some data locally on your device (a cache) so it loads quickly and works offline.
Children’s privacy
NextTrip is intended for adults. Accounts are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly allow children to create accounts. An adult account holder may choose to add family members — including children — as names, birthdays, or photos within their own private household list; that information is provided by the adult and kept private to the household. If you believe a child has provided us personal information directly, contact us and we’ll remove it.
Data retention
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete content in the app, it is removed. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your account and associated content within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited information to comply with the law or for legitimate security purposes.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access and update your content directly in the app.
- Delete trips, photos, members, and other content in the app at any time.
- Request export or deletion of your account and data by emailing us at thenexttripapp@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK or California), you may have additional rights — such as the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, just email us; we won’t discriminate against you for doing so.
How we protect your information
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and database access rules that restrict each household’s data to that household. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and keep these protections up to date.
A note on the future
NextTrip may eventually offer optional paid features or printed keepsakes, and may include affiliate links to travel services. If we make changes that affect how we handle your data, we’ll update this policy first.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll make a reasonable effort to let you know.
